Week of Action: Will Labor lead on Climate?

Friends of the Earth and Environment Victoria supporters are joining forces for a week of action between December 9 and 13.

We need you to visit the electorate office of your local Victorian Labor MP to ask them a simple question:

Will they support science-based Emissions Reduction Targets that keep global warming below 1.5°C?

WHY WE NEED YOU TO TAKE ACTION:

Premier Dan Andrews and the Labor government will soon set Emissions Reduction Targets for 2025 and ’30.

It’s the first time a state government will set short- and medium-term targets across the whole economy. And, given PM Scott Morrison’s refusal to tackle the climate crisis, it’s an opportunity that we can’t miss.

With climate impacts occurring much faster that predicted, the litmus test for the Andrews government is whether the Emissions Reduction Targets help keep global warming below 1.5°C.

Science-based targets will continue Victoria’s renewable energy rollout and put the state on the map for the jobs-rich offshore wind industry. It will require greater investment in public transport and greater protection for forests and the natural world.

THE STEPS:

1. Drop by your local Labor MPs office.

2. Ask them whether they will support science-based Emissions Reduction Targets that keep global warming below 1.5C.

3. Let us know where they stand by grabbing a photo with the MP (or a selfie outside their office) with a ‘yes’, ‘no’, or question mark on our campaign placard (like the one pictured above).

4. Send the photos to us so we can post them on social media.

THE RESOURCES:

* Find your MP > parliament.vic.gov.au/about/electorates

* Guide to meet you MP (doc in comments)

* Placard for photos (doc in comments)
