Tomorrow the Hunter faces catastrophic fire conditions. Devastating bushfires are still raging through northeast NSW and southeast of QLD, with the loss of property and life continuing to climb.
Yet on Tuesday, the NSW Parliament will be debating a Bill to remove consideration of climate change for new coal mines and gas-fields. It’s likely to pass easily.
We know the mining and burning of fossil fuels are the #1 cause of dangerous climate change, which increases the intensity of extreme weather events like the bushfires. Yet our deputy Prime Minster says linking bushfires to climate change is ‘woke capital-city greenies ravings’. As a regional city with close rural ties, we know just how untrue that is.
Tomorrow we will call on our politicians NOT to pass this damaging Bill. Join us outside the Department of Planning’s office in Honeysuckle. Please wear fire colours.
