Tragic bushfires are gripping the northeast of NSW and southeast of Queensland, causing loss of property and life. It’s truly devastating.
Yet, on Tuesday the NSW Parliament will be debating a Bill to remove consideration of climate change for new coal mines and gas-fields. It’s likely to pass easily. Tuesday is also forecast to be another dangerously hot western windy day, with extreme fire danger. The RFS has sent a notice to people in the North East warning them that because there are so many fires already burning, there may not be help available for them on Tuesday.
We know the mining and burning of fossil fuels are the #1 cause of dangerous climate change, which increases the intensity of extreme weather events like the bushfires.
Join us outside NSW Parliament this Tuesday to call on our politicians NOT to pass this damaging Bill, and instead increase funding to emergency services. Together, let’s stand in solidarity with everyone impacted by these tragic fires.
