Despite catastrophic fires, thousands of homes destroyed and at least 33 dead PM Scott Morrison still refuses to act on climate change.
If we needed any more proof of the government’s climate denialism, in late January the Morrison government announced a $2 billion deal that will expand gas and coal in NSW.
Join a campus speak-out to condemn the government and find out how you can get involved in the movement for a sustainable future and help us build towards the next major strike called by School Strike for Climate on May 15 and the workers’ action on May 1.
We need to build a climate revolt that can win mass government investment in renewable energy, a job guarantee for workers in the fossil fuel industry and the creation of hundreds of thousands of climate jobs.
As well as taking aim at Morrison, our protest will defy the corporate sell-off of our campus to climate criminals. At O-week the likes of ANZ bank buy the right to have stalls. Since 2015 ANZ loaned nearly $7.4 billion to the fossil fuel industry. Meanwhile if student run collectives want to have a stall to promote climate action at O-week they have to pay $500.
Free speech is a right and if we don’t defend it, it won’t be long before we are being charged $500 to have a stall during semester on our own campus!
Join us at 1pm outside Fisher library to build a movement to strike, resist and defeat the Morrison Government for a sustainable future.
