We sit on the threshold of a climate crisis that threatens all life on Earth.
What is it, at a deep, connected level, that motivates each of us to move beyond despair and into action?
On 7 October, the global movement Extinction Rebellion will launch a wave of non-violent direct actions in city centres across the world, calling for Governments to tell the truth about the current climate emergency and to take immediate action.
There will be mass occupation of city streets.
There will be symbolic and joyful performance art.
And – in Melbourne, on Monday 7 October – there will be an all-day silent meditation vigil at Parliament House.
* LOVE. GRIEF. COURAGE. ACTION *
Please join us in an act of witnessing, of hope, and of collective power.
“Love and justice are not two. Without inner change, there can be no outer change; without collective change, no change matters” ~ Rev. angel Kyodo williams
Monday Schedule:
10am – sitting starts
7.30pm – sitting ends
You are welcome to join us for as much as the vigil as you’re able to commit to.
We’ll have some cushions and chairs for ‘drop-ins’.
Please bring your own cushions / chair if you plan to join us for a longer period of time.
BYO water, snacks, lunch
* Please note, this is a peaceful, low risk action, and there is no intention that anyone participating in the action will place themselves in a position where they may be arrested. We will have a police liaison in place to ensure that the action is undisturbed.
Also related to this action:
From Tuesday 8 October to Sunday 13 October, there will be morning and evening sits on the steps of Parliament for anyone wishing to join. As Parliament is sitting the following week, we may also choose to continue these sits.
Separate event details will be posted shortly.

We acknowledge that the country we live and work on was built on the stolen lands and waters of hundreds of Indigenous nations, each with their own unique culture, traditions and languages. We acknowledge that our climate justice work here in the city we call Melbourne, takes place on the land of the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation; the traditional, rightful and continuing custodians. We pay our deepest respects to them and their Elders, past, present, and emerging.
