Scott Morrison is unleashing a fracking boom, accelerating the extraction of fossil fuels in the face of climate catastrophe. From the Santos project in Narrabri NSW threatening to destory Gomeroi country, to Woodside Petroleums $15 Billion pipeline in Werstern Australia – the Liberal Government is putting the profits of fossil fuel criminals over the future of the planet.
During the covid19 pandemic, Morrison used the opportunity to pump billions of dollars of subsidies into oil, gas and coal. Recent figures from the IMF show the Australian government subsidises fossil fuels to the tune of US$29 billion – A$47 billion per annum. This has only increased after Morrison unveiled his ‘gas-fired recovery’.
In 2019 we saw massive protests with the school student led climate strikes and enormous demonstrations against the Liberals during the bushfire crisis. It’s time to take back the streets and demand an end to fossil fuels.
1. First Nations justice. No mining or fracking on Indigenous lands.
2. 100% renewable energy – reduce emissions now. Build a 100% publicly owned renewable energy system by 2030 with job guarantees for workers. Just transition for communities.
3. Immediate just transition away from all current fossil fuel projects with a commitment to no future fossil fuel or nuclear projects. No to Morrison’s gas-fired recovery.
