On the 4th of February, we’re going to disrupt the opening of state parliament with mass civil disobedience.
Don’t be fooled: the government IS acting on the climate. As millions of hectares burn across the country, they’re extinguishing native title to open up the world’s biggest coal mine. They’re giving billions in subsidies to fossil fuel companies. And they’re criminalising non-violent forms of protest so they can get away with it.
The government knows a climate disaster is coming but they’re acting like it’s business as usual. The system is broken.
That’s why this won’t be a regular protest—this will be non-violent direct action against the government and the corporations that corrupt it. There’ll be safe spaces for those who can’t risk arrest. And there’ll be spaces for people who want to take highly disruptive actions.
Everyone’s welcome to join our mass action. We encourage you to plan your own actions along with us.
If you want to take highly disruptive action on the day, form a group of likeminded people—this is called an affinity group. Then make a plan that follows the ten principles of extinction rebellion ( https://ausrebellion.earth/principles/ ). We suggest affinity groups plan in person and seek advice from experienced activists.
This action will be taking place on the stolen lands of the Jagera, Turrbal, Yuggera and Yugarabul peoples of Meanjin/Brisbane and surrounds, who sustainably looked after this land for tens of thousands of years.
But after 250 years of colonisation, we’re seeing what one degree of warming looks like on this continent.
Massive bushfires…
A dead reef…
Towns running out of drinking water…
We’re heading for a climate cliff and the government is putting their foot on the accelerator.
What are you going to do about it?
