Coal2020, the Coal Operators’ Conference, will be held on 13-14 February 2020 at the University of Wollongong, Australia.
At the same time as bushfires ravage the continent, sea levels rise and coal burns this conference seeks to find more ways to dig more coal and export it to the world. This is despite the fact that coal from the six biggest mines in Australia produce more emissions than the rest of the Australian economy combined. We need to be turning away from coal production and investing in renewable energy alternatives. The ongoing support for the fossil fuel industry is what has gotten us into this crisis to begin with.
Activists from across the Illawarra are coming together to protest this conference and send a clear message that we want immediate action on climate change.
More details on the protest TBA shortly, if you would like to get involved in organising the protest please come along to the next meeting of the Illawarra Climate Justice Alliance. See our facebook page for more details.
