Melbourne: Bushfire Silent Vigil

In solidarity with Extinction Rebellion Sydney, XR Darebin is leading a silent vigil, running co-currently with Sydney’s vigil.

This Friday 15 November at 5.30pm, Extinction Rebellion will hold a Silent Vigil on the steps of Parliament House.

An unprecedented bushfire emergency is gripping NSW and Queensland.

So far…
At least three people are dead, people are missing, and many are injured.
More than 150 homes have been destroyed.
Countless animals have died, old-growth rainforests that haven’t burnt in hundreds of years are destroyed.
Thousands of firefighters and volunteers continue to battle blazes across the NSW and Queensland.

Our State and Federal Governments cannot simply observe these events – this unprecedented destruction of people and homes and land – and keep denying the truth of the Climate Emergency. Tell the Truth!

Extinction Rebellion stand in solidarity with Australians and communities on the frontlines of the Climate Emergency and our emergency services workers and volunteers working round the clock to put out these blazes and support those affected.
